Jean de La Fontaine (1621 - 1695) was a French poet and fable writer, famous for his fable stories. His works were highly favored by Louis XIV and hold an important place in French cultural heritage. Some of his fable stories have even become part of national wisdom. La Fontaine's fables are concise in writing, vivid in style, and full of wonderful dialogues among characters. Yang Songhe is a professor and doctoral supervisor in the Military Diplomacy major at the PLA University of International Relations. He was born in Longyan, Fujian Province in 1941. In 1966, he graduated from the French major of the Department of Western Languages and Literature at Peking University. From 1977 to 1980, he worked at the Chinese Embassy in Belgium. He has held positions such as staff officer, director of the scientific research department, and director of the teaching and research section. In 1984, he was named an advanced individual in news reporting of the General Staff. In 1987, he was named an outstanding teacher of the General Staff. In 1991, his translation of Remembrance of Things Past won the first prize of the National First - Session Outstanding Foreign Literature Books. In 1994, the "Construction of a New Teaching System for Military Diplomacy Major" led by him won the first prize of the Outstanding Teaching Achievements of the Entire Army and the second prize of the National Outstanding Teaching Achievements; in the same year, he was awarded a special government allowance.
