Author Introduction

Muhammad Abd al-Halim Abd Allahis a famous Egyptian novelist. He is a member of the Literature Research Department and the Novel Department of the Supreme Council for Guidance of National Literature and Arts in Egypt, and a member of the Standing Committee of the Writers' Association. In his life, he wrote ten short stories, thirteen novels, and three collections of literary criticism. His works are deeply loved by readers, and many of them have won awards or been adapted into films. After Sunset won the first prize for excellent novels from the Egyptian Ministry of Education in 1949.

Translator Introduction

Yuan Songyue was born in 1953 in Zhenhai, Zhejiang Province. He graduated from Shanghai International Studies University in 1978 and is a literary editor at Shanghai Translation Publishing House. He once worked in the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen for nearly three years and studied at the Faculty of Arts of Cairo University in Egypt. His translations include Arabic novels such as The Beginning and the EndThe Girl's Dead - end RoadAfter Sunset, and The Gold Workshop.
