Author Introduction

Bahaa Taher is a renowned Egyptian writer. He was born in Upper Egypt and graduated from the History Department of Cairo University. He participated in founding the second cultural channel program of the Egyptian Radio and engaged in drama reviews. He successively went to Rome, New Delhi, Paris, Nairobi, etc., to work as a translator for several international organizations, and later transferred to work at the headquarters of the United Nations in Geneva. His major works include short - story collections such as The Proposal, I Dreamed of You Yesterday, I Am the King, I'm Coming; and novels such as East of the Date Palm Grove, She Spoke in the Morning, Love in Exile, and Sunset Oasis. Among them, Love in Exile won the Best Novel Award at the Cairo Book Fair of that year, was hailed as a new model of realist novels, and also won the highest literary award in Egypt - the State Encouragement Award for Literature. His works are characterized by a rigorous structure, fresh language, myth - like imagination, and are permeated with the social customs of Egypt and the Arab world.

Translator Introduction

Xiang Peike (1936 - 2010), a professor, was engaged in the teaching and research of Arabic language and literature, as well as Arab - Islamic culture for a long time. In 1962, he started teaching Arabic at Beijing Foreign Studies University. In 2006, he was employed as a professor at Communication University of China Nanjing College. He once studied at Cairo University in Egypt, was dispatched to Kuwait three times to work as a translator for the sports coaching team, and later taught at a technical school in Yemen and the University of Nouakchott in Mauritania. His main works include Elementary Arabic, Arabic Listening and Speaking Course, etc. His translations include Volume 3 of A History of Arab - Islamic Culture (co - translation), The Palestine - Israel Declaration of Principles on Interim Self - Government Arrangements, and he also served as the responsible reviser of Encyclopaedia Britannica.
