Book Decription

This book has been passed down to the narrator ("I") through 13 generations. By chance, people discovered this book in the bookcase of the narrator's 14th - generation grandfather. This grandfather, Elias Shamanzuri, was a renowned scholar who lived in the Mamluk era in the 13th century. The book records the historical deeds of the immigrant Yaqub and his daughters. They lived near a bridge across the Jordan River, close to the village of Shemeshane. This bridge was later named the Bridge of Yaqub's Daughters.

The book is divided into the main text and appendix, with a large number of annotations and interpretations interspersed. It seems to dismember a story and then recombine it. Praised for its innovation in narrative structure, it was selected by the Arab Writers' Association as one of the "105 Best Middle - length and Long Novels in the Arab World in the 20th Century".
