Author Introduction

Bernard Lewis, a British-American historian, orientalist and political commentator, is a member of the British Academy and the Royal Historical Society. He was a professor of Islamic and Middle Eastern history at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. He has lectured at various universities in the United States and participated in international conferences on the history of the Middle East and Near East and Islam. Translator Introduction

Ma Zhaochun (1917 - 1996), a renowned linguist, graduated from the Department of Foreign Languages, Tsinghua University in 1939. He began to study the history of world Islam and Islamic academic culture in 1946. He returned to Chengdu to engage in ethnic affairs in 1949 and was transferred to the Translation Team of the China Islamic Association in 1956 to work as a translator and teach at the China Islamic Institute, where he compiled the teaching material History of World Islam. He was a member of the 4th and 5th Committees of the China Islamic Association, Deputy Director of the Research Department of the China Islamic Association, and was hired as an associate researcher at the Institute of World Religions, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He was the main translator and proofreader of the Chinese version of The Concise Encyclopedia Britannica and the deputy editor-in-chief of the Islam branch of Encyclopedia of China: Religion. He also participated in the compilation of A General History of China. His academic papers include Introduction to IslamBiography of Prophet MuhammadNew Trends in World Islam, etc.

Ma Xian (1929-2019), a Chinese Islamic scholar, graduated from Longdong Normal School in Pingliang in 1945. Later, he studied Islamic classics, Arabic and Persian at mosques under the guidance of renowned Islamic scholars such as Hu Songshan. In 1952, he entered Beijing Huimin Institute to study Arabic. After graduation, he engaged in teaching and research at the China Islamic Institute and the China Islamic Association. In 1980, he was elected Deputy Director of the China Islamic Association, and in 1987, he was elected Vice President of the China Islamic Association. He was also a member of the 7th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a director of the Red Cross Society of China, and a director of the World Congress of Religious Scholars for Peace. He has long been engaged in Arabic translation and compilation work. He participated in the translation and review of the Arabic version of Selected Works of Mao Zedong (Volumes 1 - 4) and also translated The Gems of Hadith. In 1991, he was awarded the First-Class Special Medal by President Mubarak of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
