"However much snow life has piled on me, that's how many springs I will encounter." On the evening of January 28th, on the stage of the 2025 CCTV Spring Festival Gala, Wang Jibing, a takeout deliveryman from Kunshan, Suzhou, used these words full of strength to introduce Faye Wong's new song "The World Bestowed Upon Me". His simple and sincere expression instantly touched the hearts of countless audiences.
Wang Jibing, affectionately known as the "takeout poet" by netizens, was born in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province in 1969. After dropping out of junior high school, he started working in various jobs, including sand dredging, construction work, street vending, and scavenging. In the first half of his life, he engaged in almost every kind of physical labor imaginable. In 2018, when he was nearly fifty years old, Wang Jibing became a takeout deliveryman. The busy and exhausting life did not dampen his love for literature. Instead, it allowed him to find inspiration for poetry in the gaps of life.
Wang Jibing became famous because of the poem "People in a Hurry". Once, due to the customer providing the wrong address, he had to make several detours to deliver the takeout. As a result, he received a negative review, a fine, and delays in other orders. The grievances and helplessness in his heart turned into moving verses on his way home: "Drive the wind out of the air, drive the knife out of the wind, drive the fire out of the bones, drive the water out of the fire. People in a hurry have no four seasons, only one stop and the next stop." After this poem was posted online, it received 26 million views, bringing Wang Jibing into the public eye.
Over the years, during the brief breaks between rush - hour takeout deliveries, Wang Jibing has been persevering in writing poetry. So far, he has created more than 6,000 poems. His poems, without fancy words, are full of the most genuine insights into life, depicting the bittersweet experiences of ordinary people, and flowing with love and tenacity for life. He wrote about a one - armed takeout deliveryman: "The single hand he holds to his chest is more like a kind of mercy from Buddha." He also wrote about a takeout delivery guy who cried bitterly for being late: "Like a piece of wood wanting to set itself on fire, but his moist eyes make him full of moisture."
Appearing on the stage of the Spring Festival Gala was an unforgettable experience for Wang Jibing. When he learned that he could be on the Spring Festival Gala, he was extremely excited. During the rehearsal, he improvised a poem titled "Red": "Wrinkles stack on my face, yet my heart remains young. Claiming time is my mission, and I am also claimed by time... Dreams are part of life. I'm sure that red is an inheritance of red, the exuberant joy, calmness, and confidence that we carry on from generation to generation." On the stage of the Spring Festival Gala, when the host asked him why he still insisted on writing poetry despite the hardship of delivering takeout, he replied, "I think it's because of poetry that delivering takeout doesn't seem so hard. I think this world is so beautiful. Life has brought us to this world, and we are here to love. I believe that however much wind and snow life gives me, that's how many springs I will encounter!"
Wang Jibing's story is a microcosm of countless ordinary people who stick to their dreams and strive hard in life. Through his poetry, he tells us that no matter how difficult life is, we can find strength in our love and create something extraordinary in the ordinary. Standing on the stage of the Spring Festival Gala, it is not only the blooming of his personal dream but also an inspiration to everyone who is running around in life, encouraging them to bravely pursue their dreams and wholeheartedly love this world.
